Red Door Family Shelter

December 22nd, 2022

“Impact the Community” has been one of Impact Kitchen’s core values since its inception. In 2020 we took another step towards living this value by starting an annual Red Door Family Shelter Holiday Drive. We are proud to support The Red Door & its long history of addressing housing and food scarcity for families in Toronto. Their actions align perfectly with Impact’s mission of empowering the community.

This year, to celebrate our 3rd annual Holiday Drive, we wanted to raise the bar. To spark some competition, each team was encouraged to decorate their donation boxes & collect as many donations as possible, leading to a tremendous wave of generosity and creativity across Team Impact. This year, we felt the influence a simple box can have when given a purpose. Under the leadership of our Holiday Hype Ambassadors, all five Impact Kitchen locations delivered more toys, food & grocery vouchers than ever before!

Supporting the Red Door Family Shelter has been a great source of joy, connection & community. After our team donation drop-off, we asked members of Team Impact & Red Door to reflect on the Red Door Family Shelter Holiday Drive, and this is what they shared:

At the Red Door Family Shelter our hearts filled with gratitude as our donation room filled with the food and gifts your amazing team had purchased for the families here!   It was so touching to see the generosity and enthusiasm that Impact Kitchen teams brought to their fundraising this year.  The boxes were gorgeous!  And the kindness that went into filling them was felt. Our shelter continues to be full, and our food banks continue to be essential to an increasing number of families who have moved from our shelters into their own homes in the community. Your gifts are touching the lives of many. Thank you all so very much!

Every year we influence more individuals, more change and more communities; this year is no exception. My most memorable moment was spending time talking to the staff and learning more about what the shelter does; this was a humbling experience.  Congratulations on another wonderful Holiday drive and happy holidays! Thank you to everyone across the organization who supported this year’s drive. You are amazing and I appreciate you all. Holiday Ambassadors you did a wonderful job leading your teams you ROCK!

As a first timer, I was able to easily involve myself in the Red Door Family Shelter initiative, both in collecting gifts and in gift delivery. Working in support of people in need during the holidays is a necessary tradition that I find incredibly fulfilling. There is no better time to help bring joy to children and parents down on their luck at this festive time of the year. It was awesome to see the room filled to the brim with all the gifts the Impact team was able to collect, and I am proud to have been a part of something so meaningful and special.

I’m proud to see the Red Door & Impact Kitchen partnership continue to grow as both organizations have a values system that focuses on serving and supporting the community.  The Impact Kitchen location Leaders did a tremendous job curating & designing their donation boxes and getting participation from all staff.  Your energy resulted in our largest donation EVER and we can proudly say that we helped several families have a better holiday season.  A huge 'thank you' for your time, effort and generosity!  #IMPACTEVERYDAY

It felt good knowing that this year, my team and I could help empower families to eat real, good food. As much as it felt good, it was also a stark reminder that agency in food security is a privilege, just like how having a platform and a social circle willing and able to donate are also privileges. Now, at the end of what felt like another draining year, I am reminded that there are still many, many things to be grateful for: I'm still standing, breathing, laughing, eating, and witnessing the true power and IMPACT of the community :)

I come from a country, Colombia, that demands a lot of help from society. Being part of Red Door reminded me that a community demands a warm hug, a genuine smile, and quality time. We can serve the community in many ways. Please do it as you can, as you please. Hope to see the Impact community support again next year, and remember, helping others is our real IMPACT.

I always look forward to this annual drive. I’m proud of seeing our entire team get excited about this initiative and go above & beyond for the greater good. To end things off with a team drop-off to Red Door is the cherry on top.
