IMPACTING THE COMMUNITY

with founder of Unbounded, Nick McNaught

In this series, we take a look at the amazing work being accomplished by members of our community. These are the game-changers, the inspirational leaders, and the passion-driven individuals who are changing our community, our health and our planet.

Q. Introduce yourself: tell us who you are and what you do.

A: My name is Nick McNaught, and I am the founder of Unbounded. Unbounded is an experience lifestyle brand that curates environments for people to overcome discomfort through primal therapies like cold exposure, heat therapy, and breathwork. We create a space for people to challenge their perceived limits and discover themselves.

Q.What’s your favourite part of your job?

A: My favourite part of my job is that I get to take a lifestyle that I have created for myself and use that to create experiences for people that are shifting their state. I get to explore what brings me peace while improving my physical and mental health, and then I get to share that with the world.

Q: Okay, cold exposure sounds, well, cold. Why would someone want to do this? What are the benefits?

1. Boosts Immune System & Improves Cellular Functions
2. Supports Cellular, Physical & Mental Resilience
3. Increases Cognitive Function, Mood, Vigilance & Overall Vitality
4. Decreases Global/Systemic/Acute Pain & Inflammation
5. Activates Metabolism, Metabolic Pathways & Burns Fat
6. Supports Accelerated Recovery and Somatic Healing
7. Benefits Circulatory System & Blood Flow
8. Enhances Mind, Body & Soul Connection
9. Increased Confidence, Will Power and Response to Stressors
10. Revitalizes Skin, Hair & Overall Recovery

Q: If someone wants to get started with cold exposure but they’re nervous about taking the plunge (no pun intended), what steps can they take in their day-to-day life to get started?

A: If someone wants to try cold exposure, there are a couple of things that they can do to get started. The first would be to practice some breathwork if they have not done any before - getting comfortable with extending their exhales, slowing their heart rate and getting connected to their breath. Managing your breath in cold water is the imperative first step. The other key starting step is to start taking cold showers. Start small and simple, with 10 seconds of cold water and then turn back to warm for a minute, repeating this cycle several times. As you get more comfortable, extend the time of the cold water to 20 seconds, then 30 seconds and so on, until you are able to do 2-4 minutes straight.

Q. Outside of work, what lights you up?

A: Nature. Family. Building projects that take creative solutions. Fishing. Paddleboarding. Writing poetry.

Q: What's your favourite Impact menu item?

A: My favourite Impact menu item is a split between the Chocolate Sea Salt Cookie and the Power Breakfast.

Q. And finally, how do you strive to make an Impact every day?

A: Every day, I make a commitment to myself as I get out of bed that I will do my best and that I will be compassionate, patient, and gentle with myself and with others. That I will work hard and I will lead by example. I think that the simplest, most effective way that I strive to make an impact is that I try to make everyone that crosses my path feel like they are seen.
