An Impact Star Hits The Stage
In this series, we take a look at the amazing work being accomplished by members of our community. These are the game-changers, the inspirational leaders, and the passion-driven individuals who are changing our community, our health and our planet.
If you’ve ever been to Impact King, chances are you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Michael. He’s the first to greet you when you come in–and he usually has you laughing throughout your entire conversation. He’s a star team member. So when he decided he was taking that star quality to the drag stage, we knew we had to feature him as we give him our farewell! So if you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Michael, here is your chance!
A: After serving for a long time in very different environments, I was really interested in the atmosphere at Impact, the clientele they served and their attitude towards the restaurant industry as a whole. I knew I wanted to be involved in that.
A: When I started in 2019 I was both a server and a POS operator. I then grew to become a barista and entered the management team as a manager on duty in 2021.
A: First and foremost I love the people I work with at impact, and the community I developed while working there has truly changed me as a person. I love the atmosphere that we are able to create at Impact King St, and the passion for food and healthy living that is evident in the clientele.
A: Outside of Impact I am first and foremost a professional drag performer, and work 3-5 nights a week on the Church-Wellesley strip. I am an avid vinyl collector with a 1300 piece collection, and I’m a bit of an encyclopedia when it comes to the music of the 1970s.
A: Drag shows are such a fun and welcoming place to be in, and they are welcome for all to come and enjoy. Because drag has such a historic importance in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, drag shows are a safe place for communion, comedy and merriment. Be prepared to laugh and don’t come with a thick skin: everybody can be the loving target of a drag queen!
A: I love me a Zesty Mexican, because that bowl offers a little bit of everything, especially if you’re like me and like options!
A: Because I love me some old music as well as new, I’ll share my fave new song which blends a bit of both: ”You Want My Love,” by Lucky Daye featuring the legendary Earth, Wind and Fire!
